when i mask something say 3 secs long, if i mask the whole thing, it would show that i had masked till 2 secs then after it would show that i hadnt masked anything then again it would re mask

i think you should look at your key frame if you really mask it, maybe you mask it in one frame then the other not so it looks like you didn't mask at all... hope that helps
